Using Photo Editing Software For Your PC

PC Photo Editing Software is designed to optimize your digital images. Digital photography is becoming more and more popular thanks to all the advantages that it provides, so it's no wonder why people are so interested in finding the best photo editing software for their personal computer. Digital cameras capture digital photographs. The digital photos are made out of pixels which are tiny squares on the computer screen, with different colors and they combine to produce the entire image. The PC divides the image into those small elements called pixels. Each pixel is a small square made up of a single color. A given image can contain millions of pixels.

The quality of the image is proportional to the number of pixels, or in other words the bigger the number of pixels, the higher the quality of the image. More pixels add detail to an image, sharpen edges, and increase resolution. If you enlarge any digital image enough, you will start to see the pixels and image quality decreases, which is an effect called pixelization. The PC photo editing software works directly with those pixels and changes their color and other properties. For example, when you use such software to resize a given image, it basically increases the number of pixels to cover a larger area and that's why the quality decreases. To do so, the computer analyzes adjoining pixels to determine the color of any new ones it inserts. Normally, you can double the size of an image without effects showing. When enlarged too much, sharpness begins to fade and eventually the square pixels will begin to show-the image becomes pixilated. Image sizes are expressed as dimensions in pixels (1600 ? 1200) or by the total number of pixels (1,920,000).

PC photo editing software is often used for sharpening images. Most photos captured with a digital camera or a scanner contain some blur that can be corrected using a process called unsharp masking (USM). In fact, the need for this process is so common, many high-end cameras and scanners have embedded software that does it automatically. Even if it's been done once to an image, it may have to be done again if you resample the image. You'll find that this procedure, done with an Unsharp Mask filter can make a tremendous difference in photos that you print or post on the Web. The Unsharp Mask filter works by locating edges in the image by looking for pairs of adjacent pixels that have a specified difference in brightness (threshold) and increases the contrast of those pixels by a specified amount. The change affects not only the pair of pixels, but also any that fall within a specified radius.

The color balance feature of any pc photo editing software allows you to change the relationships of the red, green, or blue channels to make the colors in an image more accurate or more different. Saturation refers to the intensity of a color. This feature is often used with color balance to vary the intensity of specific color levels to get those color photos looking just right.

Fun With Caricature Studios

By Dennis Moore Hopkins
Caricatures are portraits of exaggerated features of a person or a thing. While some people have learnt the art to manipulate these features into caricatures with the help of photo-editing software, it is not an easy thing to do for the not so computer-savvy. There are too many technical terms to understand and how one thing affects another with photo-editing software.
